JANET NAPOLITANO
GOVERNOR

MICHAEL BRANHAM
DIRECTOR

MEMORANDUM

DATE: February 3, 2005
TO: Staff and Constituents of the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections
FROM: Michael Branham, Director
SUBJECT: The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections Strategic Plan, 2004-2007

In September of last year the Department embarked on a bold journey to define our future. With the U.S. Department of Justice Agreement in place, agency members gathered for a series of critical discussions regarding our current operations and where change must occur to not only reach compliance with the Agreement, but to surpass those requisites and create a new organization. As a result, a comprehensive three-year strategic plan was constructed, outlining an aggressive agenda for the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC).

The plan places emphasis on two major strategic issues - Continuum of Services and Organizational Culture Change. All efforts detailed in the strategic plan are connected to these two areas of focus. Contained within the plan are statements that give explanation to the major strategic issues.

Assigned to each major strategic issue are four goals. Individual ‘Champions’ have been selected to oversee the advancement of the eight goals and their associated objectives. In the coming months, Champions will be enlisting the assistance of numerous employees to coordinate and carry out the activities which support the objectives.

At this time I am asking all ADJC employees and stakeholders to review our strategic plan and provide comment. I consider this a ‘working document’ and subject to modification when deemed to be in the best interest of the Department. Departmental staff can send feedback to ADJC Agenda, via the internal e-mail system. Stakeholders may send messages to an exclusively developed e-mail address: ADJCagenda@azdjc.gov. All information received will be distributed to the ADJC Leadership Team.

Thank you for taking an interest in the Department. Your support is truly valued and appreciated.
